
What Is Waterjet Cutting?
Waterjet cutting is one of today’s most advanced and versatile machining technologies. Its greatest advantage is the ability to produce highly precise cuts without generating heat, allowing the material to retain its original structure and mechanical properties. This is why more and more industries rely on waterjet cutting whenever dimensional accuracy, superior edge quality, and material integrity are essential.
How Does Waterjet Cutting Work?
Waterjet cutting uses an extremely high-pressure water jet operating at 4,000–6,000 bar. The water exits the cutting head at extremely high speed and is capable of cutting softer materials using water alone.
For harder materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, granite, glass, and ceramics, a fine abrasive material (garnet abrasive) is added to the water jet. These extremely hard abrasive particles, combined with the high-velocity water stream, enable exceptionally precise and clean cuts, even in the toughest materials.

Why Is Waterjet Cutting Becoming Increasingly Popular?
Conventional thermal cutting technologies—such as laser, plasma, or flame cutting—separate material using heat. While these processes are highly effective in many applications, the heat can alter the material’s structure, cause distortion, or create internal stresses.
Waterjet cutting, by contrast, is a completely cold cutting process. No heat-affected zone (HAZ) is created, meaning the material’s mechanical properties remain unchanged. There is no surface hardening, structural damage, or thermal distortion. This makes waterjet cutting particularly suitable for precision components where even the slightest dimensional change or material alteration could affect the performance of the finished product.
